Leading choreographer Shiv Shankar Master, who had contracted a severe form of COVID-19 and was undergoing treatment at a corporate hospital in Gachibowli for the past few days, passed away on Sunday evening. He was 72 years old. He is survived by wife Suganya and two sons Vijay and Ajay.
It was found that 90 per cent of his lungs were affected due to infectious disease and he was on mechanical ventilator support.
Shiv Shankar Master was admitted to AIG Hospital, Gachibowli, with a serious complication arising out of COVID-19. His wife Suganya and elder son Vijay Shivshankar also tested positive for COVID-19. While Suganya is in home isolation, her son is undergoing treatment at another hospital.
Earlier last week, the famous choreographer's younger son Ajay Shivshankar made an open appeal, seeking financial assistance for his father's treatment. Responding to the appeal, actors Chiranjeevi, Sonu Sood and Dhanush provided financial assistance for the treatment.
Born in Chennai on December 7, 1948, Shiv Shankar known in the film industry as 'Master', he acted in around 800 films covering 10 languages. A strong foundation in classical dance helped Shiv Shankar to choreograph all kinds of dances and his choreography for Rajamouli's 'Dheera Dheera...' number. maghadheera He received the National Award in 2011.
A versatile artist, Shiv Shankar, who trained under veteran choreographer Salim, acted in around 30 films at the request of some directors. As a judge of a dance reality show on TV, he became a household name. His witty and lovable Tamil-accent attracted more viewers to the Telugu show.
Shiv Shankar had moved from Chennai to Hyderabad a few years back due to personal reasons.
Telugu film personalities took to Twitter to offer condolences to the late choreographer. Chiranjeevi expressed his deep sorrow at the untimely demise of the veteran choreographer. Baahubali director SS Rajamouli said in his Twitter tribute: “Sad to learn that renowned choreographer Shiv Shankar Master Garu has passed away. It was a memorable experience working with him for Magadheera. may his soul rest in peace. Condolences to his family".
“Heartbroken to hear about the passing away of Shiv Shankar Masterji. Tried his best to save him but God's plan was different. Will always miss you Masterji. May God give strength to the family to bear this loss. Cinema will always miss you sir,” tweeted Sonu Sood.
Actors Pawan Kalyan and Ram Charan were among those who mourned his demise.
His notable films as an actor in Tamil include director Bala's Pardesi, Indru Netru Nalai and Surya-starrer Thana Serandha Kootam, which was directed by Vignesh Sivan.
